New Ad Highlights Tom Barrett's Adult Leadership vs. Scott Walker's Reckless Borrowing

When faced with the same crisis of solving unexpected debt in the City and County pension funds caused by the national economic crisis, Tom Barrett and Scott Walker had markedly different responses.

Tom Barrett made tough choices and displayed the adult leadership needed to tackle the issue head on. As a result of his choices, primarily through $32 million in spending cuts, the City of Milwaukee's pension fund is now fully funded and has no debt. Scott Walker, on the other hand, chose to borrow his way out of the County pension debt crisis by saddled future generations with $400 million in reckless borrowing.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published an editorial today praising Tom's plan to eliminate the offices of secretary of state and state treasurer as a way to make government more efficient and frugal with taxpayer money. Tom's proposal to eliminate these offices is part of his larger plan to Put State Government on a Diet and by cutting $1.1 billion in wasteful spending.

Last week, Scott Walker and his big-money political cronies in Washington, D.C. launched another false, negative attack ad in a desperate attempt to mislead voters on Tom's record of creating jobs and fighting for Wisconsin workers and families.

With a $1 million donation from Fox News fresh in their bank account, Scott Walker and his special interest pals not only went up on the air to hide the fact that Scott Walker has no record of creating jobs for Wisconsin families, they also tried to hide the fact that the bar in their ad isn't really in Wisconsin.

A leading group of innovators and entrepreneurs in the science and technology industries today announced the formation of the Tech for Tom Steering Committee to support Tom's campaign to create jobs and get Wisconsin working.

In an open letter released shortly after Tom's remarks at BioForward's Biotechnology Vision Summit, the committee of business leaders and entrepreneurs said, "Tom's bold vision and unwavering dedication will cement and strengthen Wisconsin's place as an international leader in the technology economy."
