Fighting for a Stronger Wisconsin
Issues
Tom's Plan to Create Wisconsin Jobs
Tom's comprehensive plan to create jobs focuses on sparking job creation today, as well as implementing long-term economic growth strategies to build Wisconsin's economy of tomorrow. It invests in Wisconsin's strengths – like manufacturing and agriculture – while supporting emerging industries that can provide jobs in the future – like biotech and high-tech. And the plan builds on Wisconsin's assets – tremendous natural resources, outstanding institutions of higher learning, and an excellent workforce with a legendary work ethic.
Tom's Plan to Put Madison on a Diet
Tom Barrett's plan to Put Madison on a Diet will save Wisconsin taxpayers at least $1.1 billion and make significant reforms to change the way state government works.
The road to fiscal responsibility and budgetary solvency starts with reducing state government spending. Wisconsin needs a Governor with real and specific solutions to the problems that face our state, not gimmicks or meaningless bumper sticker slogans.
Keeping Wisconsin's Agriculture Strong
Agriculture is an essential part of Wisconsin’s way of life and our economy – generating $59 billion in economic activity and supporting more than 400,000 jobs. With a committed partner in the governor’s office, we can leverage Wisconsin’s traditional strength in agriculture to increase diversity, profitability and innovation. Tom has developed a comprehensive and detailed plan to keep Wisconsin agriculture at the cutting edge for farms of all sizes.
Educating Our Way to a Stronger Wisconsin
As the husband of a teacher and a father of four children, Tom understands the complex issues that face our education system. As governor, he will invest in Wisconsin's schools so our children are prepared for the challenges of the future.
Wisconsin has the most industrious workforce in the country; Tom knows we must make sure it's the most highly skilled and versatile. We must make sure our education system - from kindergarten to technical schools and colleges - empowers the people of our state with the skills to be competitive in a global economy.
Protecting our Environment and Investing in Clean Energy Jobs
The goals of economic growth, environmental protection and energy reform have been viewed as mutually exclusive for too long in politics.
Tom Barrett understands that by capitalizing on the new wave of technologies, we can generate clean sources of energy right here in Wisconsin. This will create thousands of well-paying green jobs, lower energy costs for families and businesses alike, and will keep Wisconsin's energy dollars here and working for us – instead of shipping $16 billion a year to other states or foreign countries as we currently do.
Making Healthcare Affordable
The people of Wisconsin expect their leaders to stand with them to reduce health care costs for families and businesses so we can get our economy moving and make sure quality health care is affordable and accessible.

Senior Citizens
Tom knows that we owe it to our seniors to help make sure they can enjoy their golden years in comfort and economic security. As governor, he will promote wellness efforts to help seniors and adults with disabilities receive home health assistance for as long as possible if they so choose. And Tom will fight for SeniorCare to make sure our seniors can get access to the affordable prescription medication they need.
Building the Transportation Infrastructure of the 21st Century
Tom Barrett understands that maintaining Wisconsin's transportation infrastructure must be a priority in order to get Wisconsin working.
Tom supports a balanced approach to transportation that invests in our roads, as well as public transportation initiatives that will help spur long-term economic growth.
Supporting Wisconsin's Veterans
Wisconsin is home to over 400,000 veterans and nearly 30,000 brave Wisconsin men and women have served in the American operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
When Wisconsin service members return home from duty or retire from the armed services, Tom understands that it is our solemn responsibility to ensure that we have tools and the resources necessary to support their continued service or transition to civilian status.
Women's Issues
Whether standing up for equal pay, protecting women's reproductive rights, or encouraging women-owned businesses, Tom Barrett has always been a strong advocate on issues important to women and families.
Throughout Tom's career, he has worked to protect a right to choose and women's access to reproductive health care. Tom firmly believes that equal work should be rewarded with equal pay. He will fight salary discrimination based on gender, and work to ensure that women are treated, and paid, fairly and equally in the workplace.
