Tom Barrett - Standing up for Green Energy Jobs and Our Environment

Tom has a strong record of creating jobs and protecting the environment. As Mayor, Tom has transformed the Menomonee Valley from one of Wisconsin’s largest brown-fields into a thriving commercial and recreational center that supports thousands of jobs and activities for Wisconsin families.

Tom is committed to working to protect our lakes and waterways. He was a forceful proponent of the Great Lakes Compact, and he has always opposed efforts to drill for oil and gas in the Great Lakes. Tom is also a leader in efforts to keep Asian Carp and other invasive species out of our waterways.

Green Initiatives & Awards Under Tom Barrett’s Leadership:

  • Installed a green roof on top of the downtown Milwaukee Public Library
  • Implemented a storm water park in the Menomonee Valley that won a 10 ten award from Sierra Club
  • Converted over 35% of the city’s fleet to run on bio-diesel
  • Worked to bring clean-energy companies Helios USA (Solar Panels) and Ingeteam (Windmills) to create good paying energy jobs for Milwaukee families.
