In a time where the rights of women in Wisconsin are being systematically targeted and taken away Wisconsin, needs a governor who will fight to end Scott Walker's war on women. Whether, protecting women's reproductive rights, standing up for equal pay or encouraging women-owned businesses, Tom Barrett has always been a strong advocate on issues important to women.
Throughout Tom's career, he has worked to protect a women’s right to choose and women’s access to reproductive health care. A firm believer that a woman should be able to have her most intimate conversations with her health care provider without the intrusion of legislators Tom will work to reverse the recent assaults on women’s heath. As Mayor of Milwaukee, Tom has also made women's health a priority making strides in reducing teen pregnancy and STD rates, committing to maternal and child health, and by launching the Fatherhood Initiative in 2006 to help prevent teen pregnancy and other public health problems.
Tom firmly believes that equal work should be rewarded with equal pay. As governor he will fight to restore the protections that were taken away by Scott Walker. He will work to end salary discrimination based on gender and ensure that women are treated fairly and paid equally in the workplace. Tom also understands that in order to create jobs and encourage new start-up businesses, Wisconsin needs greater investment and growth in the number of women-owned businesses. Before the recession, women- and minority-owned businesses in Wisconsin grew at a faster rate then the national average.
The women of Wisconsin need a leader who will fight for their rights not use their ideologically agenda to chip away at their rights. As governor Tom Barrett will continue his strong record of standing up and fighting for Wisconsin women.
