Barrett Puts Wisconsin First in Debate Win

Tom Barrett won the first general election debate against Scott Walker in overwhelming fashion by focusing the discussion on critical issues of jobs, honesty, trust and the people of Wisconsin. The debate drew a strong distinction between their approaches to leadership.

Barrett highlighted his experience bringing people together, listening to all sides, making tough decisions and taking responsibility. Walker continued to duck responsibility for his actions. He dodged such issues as who is funding his criminal defense fund, why he won’t release emails from his time as county executive and why he refuses to release records of his extensive time spent outside of Wisconsin on political fundraising trips around the country.

After the debate sponsored by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, Barrett for Wisconsin communications director Phil Walzak released the following statement:

“Tom Barrett let the people of Wisconsin know that his priorities are creating jobs, strengthening education at all levels and being open and honest with the people of our state. In contrast, Scott Walker time and again flatly refused to answer questions on being the only governor in the country to have a criminal defense fund related to the ongoing John Doe investigation and his extensive travel for his own political gain.

“Tonight’s debate showed the people of Wisconsin they have a very clear choice on June 5 - a leader they can trust to focus on the people of Wisconsin, create jobs and heal the division, or the current governor whose divide-and-conquer approach has resulted in record job loss, undermining education on all levels and pitting people and communities against each other.

“Tonight’s debate showed it is clearly time for Wisconsin to have a new governor that focuses on our state.”

Mr Barrett,I hope and pray that you win the election. It is obvious that you need to win.The union busting powers that be know that unions are a very necessary component in the success of this wonderful country, but their agenda is to divide and conquer.Stay strong and may you soon be Governor Barrett!I am not from Wisconsin, but I still believe in helping a worthy cause and will continue to campaign for you as I recently did with two families I met vacationing from Wisconsin her in New York. Our Governor here in NY is a bully as well, but that is another topic although similar

I’m not a Wisconsinite but I have been following the political news there. If you are not elected, Mr. Barrett, the rest of the GOP governors in the country are going to think they can do the same thing as Walker did. I’m from Arizona and much of the same stuff is happening here. Therefore, I’m donating to your election campaign. I know time is running out. Let’s hope the smart Wisconsinites will come out and vote for you.

Sincerely,
Shirl Coleman (originally from your neighbor state, Illinois)

We need to stress to people how their vote matters! We must appeal to poor and working poor-too many times we hear only of fighting for the middle class. Walker’s lies must be called out-didn’t raise taxes?! b.s.! Our prop. taxes went up and our wages have gone down bc we are public employees-Feels like a Tax to us! Our city and schools have lost many employees due to budget-b.s. that Walker is creating jobs! We now have Less money for people to spend in their communities, Less in services and education. Don’t let his mantras become real or fact to our ears bc they are not-it’s repeating a lie enough until people start to believe it and not question it. go Tom! Don’t let up on him! Those sociopaths can be slippery!

I think Tom Barrett needs to emphasize that he would put “people, not money, first” . There is nothing balanced about the way Walker “balanced” his budget without any “shared sacrifice” from the wealthy. Trickle down theories do not work. If they did we wouldn’t have unemployment. Walker is a corrupt politician who is beholden to his millionaire friends to whom he will sell Wisconsin. His actions against the environment, the middle class, and specially the poor are un-Christian. Barrett has a lot more than the jobs issue to “badger” Walker with!

Glad Tom Barrett won the debate.

A good Question to ponder and ask on the next debate. If Walker is such a strong leader,How come he never meets with the public employees who he attacked? He has no problem meeting with the rich and influential.

I thought Tom placed some well placed punches last night. I think the people need to hear more of the “how” now that we’ve heard the “whys”. Attacks can only go so far. Stay above the fray. We need this win!!

TOM, YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT WALKER IS DOING WITH THIS JOB CREATIONS FRAUD. I’VE BEEN INVESTIGATING THIS FOR A FEW WEEKS NOW. THEY ARE SETTING US UP FOR A HUGE TRAP AND REVANGE STRATEGY IF THEY LOSE. YOU HAVE TO LOOK INTO THIS AND TELL THE PUBLIC THE TRUTH BEFORE ELECTION DAY.

You did an excellent job on showing why we need to replace the SleepWalker. I think that you need to also stress what your term as Governor will mean for people who are hurting in Wisconsin. You will be a governor for people who do not have $510,000 to give away as if it was loose change.

I always knew Tom had integrity. I worked on the Dukakis campaign and when after the Willie Horton crap everyone was ducking for cover Tom was there helping to organize the people in Milwaukee to support him.

I trust him to work for all the people of Wisconsin even when it comes to telling the hard truth to all of us that things have changed. If we work TOGETHER there is nothing we Wisconsinites cannot accomplish.

GO TOM

Go Tom,
Don’t forget to ask Walker that if the people of Milwaukee are so oppressed by you, then why did you win your last two elections by such big percentage points?

He is intelligent, moral , honest, dignified —representing the qualities a governor should have.

Mayor Barrett you did a great job in the debate. You have the leadership qualities Wisconsin needs. You can heal the state. You have the compassion. Go get ’em in the next debate.

MR. BARRETT, I AM FROM NYC BUT I HAVE BEEN SENDING MONEY TO YOUR CAMPAIGN BECAUSE I THINK YOU ARE THE BEST CHOICE FOR WI.. THIS ELECTION MEANS MORE TO ME BECAUSE WE CAN SHOW ALL THE BILLIONAIRES IN THE WORLD THAT THE PEOPLE UNITED CAN WIN=OUT.

GREAT JOB ON YOUR DEBATE, I THINK YOUR STRENGTH WAS REFRESHING.

Suggestion for the next debate…emphasize the GET OUT THE VOTE plan and remind voters they can vote absentee ballot thru June 1. My husband and I did that today so we can drive people to the polls on June 5!

hammer the issue of integraty. walker can’t compete with it.

Tom Barrett being Tom Barrett = a decisive debate win. GOTV!

Posted by Sharon Nemecek at 10:30PM on May 25 2012

Walker kept saying he made hard choices and now state is doing so much better because of him. We need to find facts that this is not true. If you have some facts that what he is saying is not true and have the stats to prove it that would be a real boost.
