GOP TERRIFIED OF TOM: RIGHT-WING NEGATIVE TV BARRAGE AGAINST BARRETT INTENSIFIES

State Conservative, Corporate Special Interests Pile On; Right Wing Alliance Now Outspending Barrett 4-1

Walker, RGA Targeting Only Barrett -- Not One Dime Spent Against Any Other Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate

MILWAUKEE -- The conservative corporate special interest lobby Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce has joined the clear right-wing assault on the airwaves with a new $700,000 television buy to tout Scott Walker, while Walker himself and the Republican Governor's Association are spending over $600,000 in negative attacks aimed only at Tom Barrett.

"This is a clear indication that Scott Walker and his right-wing allies are trying to prevent Tom Barrett from winning the Democratic primary, because they know he's the candidate that will beat Scott Walker on June 5th," said Barrett for Wisconsin Communications Director Phil Walzak.

A new analysis on television ad spending from Barrett for Wisconsin shows WMC spending heavily to prop up Scott Walker during the final week of the primary and the first week of the General Election, purchasing $700,000 worth of air time. This is so Walker and the RGA can train their fire on Tom Barrett. Walker's campaign is spending $285,000 running a false, negative attack on Barrett's record as mayor of Milwaukee. The RGA is spending $325,000 on advertising to attack Barrett.

Walker and his allies aren't spending any money on TV ads attacking any other Democratic gubernatorial candidate, a clear sign they want to end Barrett's campaign in the primary and rescue Walker from a head-to-head matchup with the Democrat with the likeliest chance to defeat him in the general.

"The truth is Walker would welcome the opportunity to square off against any of the Democratic candidates for governor except Tom Barrett," said Walzak. "The fact that Walker and his political cronies are trying to snuff out Tom in the primary should send a powerful message to the thousands and thousands of grassroots activists across Wisconsin dedicated to ending Walker's ideological war on our Wisconsin values: if you want to beat Scott Walker on June 5th, vote Tom Barrett on May 8th."
