Barrett Renews Call for Walker to Release All Emails Associated with Criminal Corruption Probe
MILWAUKEE – In the wake of a news report today that the John Doe criminal corruption investigation may be focused on an email exchange between Gov. Walker and a top aide, Tom Barrett renewed his call for Walker to release to the public all emails involving the scandal.
“Today’s report, called a potential bombshell, reveals that Gov. Walker may indeed be the target of the John Doe criminal corruption probe, and that his emails are at the center of the case,” said Barrett. “It is essential for Scott Walker to come clean with the people of Wisconsin, and show the public all of these emails. The people deserve to know the full truth about Walker’s involvement in this investigation.”
The email exchange in question was between Walker and one of his closest aides John Hiller about potential bid-rigging in a county real estate contract in which Hiller had a personal financial stake. The story was reported in today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and can be found here: http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/noquarter/significance-of-email-exchanges-wont-be-revealed-for-a-while-u85i7u3-155144405.html
Walker has ducked and dodged all questions around the John Doe investigation, citing request of prosecutors. However prosecutors have declined to say publicly if they have made that request.
“Thus far, only Scott Walker says Scott Walker can’t share the truth with the public, and that’s not good enough,” said Barrett. “It’s time for Walker to finally be straight with the people of Wisconsin. With a critical election just one week away, voters deserve the full story. Why is Walker trying to deny that to the public?”
